Historical redlining patterns were charted based on the territorial divisions implemented by the Home Owners' Loan Corporation (HOLC). Studies have shown an association between insomnia and insulin resistance (IR), however, whether insomnia is a true cause of insulin resistance remains unknown.

In the UK Biobank cohort, primary analyses involved multivariable regression (MVR) and single sample Mendelian randomization (1SMR) to examine the associations between insomnia and insulin resistance, specifically the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, the triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio, and their associated traits (glucose, triglycerides, and HDL-C). Following the primary analyses, two-sample Mendelian randomization (2SMR) analyses were conducted to validate the results. In conclusion, the mediating effects of insulin resistance (IR) on the causal pathway from insomnia to type 2 diabetes (T2D) were examined using a two-stage Mendelian randomization design.
